So on the recommendation of my electrodynamics lecturer, I'm working through Purcell's Electricity/Magnetism text and find it quite hard to use - I secured a tattered 1985 copy of the book and find that I can't convert easily between the cgs units it uses and SI units. Most exercises also don't seem to have any solutions.
So I did some digging on the internet and found that there's a third edition heavily edited by Morin that dispenses with cgs units. Being the archetypal tightarse college student, does anyone recommend shelling out ~$55 for a used copy? Or will the older editions work if I'm willing to work a bit harder?
Anyone have any experiences with any editions of Purcell's book or have any other recommendations on electromag texts worth taking a look at for someone who is fairly solid in vector calculus? (or at least would like to think so)
